Guests sometimes ask us why the taverna is called Sirtaki. The answer is a family one, and it starts with our father, Nikos.
A name from a film and a dance
Sirtaki is the name of the famous Greek dance from Zorba the Greek, the film that made Zorba's dance known around the world. Our father loved that film and its music, so when he and our mother Eleni opened their taverna in 1993, he gave it that name.
The bouzouki and the basil
In the past our father also played the bouzouki. And he used to dance the Zorba song with a sprig of basil behind his ear. That is the spirit in which this place was named: a love of Greek music and dance.
What Sirtaki means to us
For us it is more than the name of Zorba's dance. Sirtaki is a celebration of life, of togetherness, and of the joy of sharing moments with the people you love. That is the spirit we hope to bring to your meal.
From 1993 to today
Nikos and Eleni opened Sirtaki in 1993, in the centre of the village of Analipsi. Today their three sons, Manos, Giorgos and Giannis, continue the work together with their wives, Rania and Roula, and Mama Eleni is still the chef for the Greek specialties. We cook with fresh local ingredients, many of them from our own farm and garden. The name has stayed the same, and so has the idea behind it: good food, a warm table and a friendly welcome.
You can meet the whole family on our story page, or see what is cooking tonight in our menu guide.
