A menu in a new country can be a little intimidating. Here is ours, from our taverna in Analipsi, near Hersonissos. So here is a short walk through ours, in the order we would suggest it to a table of friends. Prices are those on our current menu and may change, so check the menu before you come.
Start with something to share
Greek meals are meant to be shared. Order a few starters for the middle of the table, tear some bread and dip it. We make our dips at the restaurant, and there are fresh salads, which Roula prepares in the kitchen, to go alongside.
If you are two people and want to taste a lot, order the Meze for 2. It is more than twenty small Greek dishes on one large platter, 65€ for the table. It is available by pre-order only, in the early part of the evening, so write "MEZE" when you book online.
The Greek classics
Kleftiko, 22€. Lamb baked slowly in parchment paper with potatoes, carrots, garlic, herbs and feta. It is a dish built on patience rather than heavy sauce, and the meat comes away easily from the bone.
Moussaka, 16€. Layers of aubergine, courgette and seasoned minced beef under a thick, golden béchamel. Mama Eleni leads the Greek kitchen, and this is one of her dishes.
There are more traditional dishes on the menu and on our Greek specialties page, as well as seafood and grilled meat. Not sure what suits you? Our What to Order guide helps you choose.
The steaks
Our Cretan Black Angus comes from a family farm in the Messara plain in central Crete, which has been raising cattle since 1970. Every steak is dry-aged for 25 days by a local butcher. That time makes the meat tender and gives it a deeper flavour.
Giorgos cooks them on the grill. You can choose between cuts such as tomahawk, ribeye, T-bone and prime rib, and there are also a Black Angus burger and a souvlaki XXL if you want something smaller. See all the cuts on the Black Angus page. If you are not sure which cut to pick, ask us and we will explain the differences.
Wine with dinner
We keep more than 100 labels, and about twenty of them are served by the glass. Many are Cretan (see our wine guide), and Giannis, who looks after the cellar, will help you choose something that goes with your dish, whether it is a lamb kleftiko or a steak. We serve wine by the bottle or by the glass.
For vegetarians, vegans and gluten free guests
There are vegetarian and vegan dishes marked on the menu, and gluten free dishes that we prepare in separate containers. If you have an allergy, tell your waiter when you order so that we can check the dish with you.
For the children
We have a children's menu with five choices, so even the fussiest eater should find something. Baby chairs and a changing table are available. More in our family dining guide.
And something sweet
Save a little room for dessert. The chocolate soufflé is a favourite, and you can have it with a coffee, an espresso martini or a glass of something good. Plenty of guests come later in the evening just for dessert and a drink, and that is fine with us.
Come and see us
We are in the centre of Analipsi, between 5 and 20 minutes on foot from the hotels in the village, depending on where you stay, and a short drive or taxi ride from Hersonissos and Gouves. Book your table online. No credit card is needed, and you can cancel up to 30 minutes before.
